Hospital Buddy System
Hospital Buddy System
About theÌýprogram
The Hospital Buddy System (HBS) is a group mentoring initiative for medical students in years 2-6 who are placed at St George Hospital, St Vincent’s, Prince of Wales, Liverpool and South West Sydney hospitals.
Led by the аIJʹÙÍø Medical Society (MedSoc), the HBS fosters a collaborative learning environment, encouraging students to act as both mentors and mentees. It follows a trickle-down model, where Year 6 students mentor Year 5 students, who in turn mentor Year 4 students, continuing down through each year level to Year 2.
Students can receive a certificate of participation to submit as part of their end of term or end of year portfolios.
Program duration
- Term 2 and Term 3
The program commences at the beginning of Term 2 and continues for the rest of the academic year.Ìý
Registrations and commencement
- New student registrations
Students from years 2-6 are invited to join the HBS via MedSoc's social media channels at the end of Term 1 each year. This allows students time to settle into their hospital placements and studies.Ìý - Group allocation
After registration closes, students are assigned to HBS groups by the MedSoc Vice President Internal and Academics Director. Each group typically includes 8-10 students, with representation from each year level.Ìý - Program commencement
Introductory sessions begin in Week 1 of Term 2.Ìý
