Artist statement

Part of an ongoing zine project that draws visual reference from graphic novels and medieval manuscripts, Cygnet reveals glimpses into a fictional world, in which a shapeshifting alien raised on earth shares their experiences of belonging and isolation living amongst humans.

Through this narrative, I explore the complex relationship between asexual, nonbinary, and autistic coding of alien characters in science fiction, and the dichotomous feelings of self-recognition and alienation they can create within audiences that share these identities.
